Attention fans of the Rebel Spell... Alien Boys and Freak Dream gigs this weekend!

There are a few gigs by members of the Rebel Spell's diaspora in Vancouver over the next while. Tonight at 333, Alien Boys - featuring Erin on guitar, in a more Discharge-y context than you've heard her previously - will be releasing a tape at 333, along with Want. Haven't heard it, but I like the idea of a tape called Self-Critical Theory a lot - kinda suggests a kind of masochistic spin on identity politics. By the way, isn't that the chicken lady from Tod Browning's Freaks in the poster?

And speaking of freaks, Elliot will be fronting Freak Dream, with a gig tomorrow at Red Gate and a show November 25th here. They have an EP coming out, too. I was really kind of floored by his band's powerhouse cover of "Pride and Prejudice" at the Rebels Sing gig awhile back, but I can't say for sure it will be in the set on these occasions (Elliot says he will be "happy to move forward and not constantly be Rebel Spell-widow... don't get me wrong I love the Rebel Spell. But it's not happening anymore, and it hurts to look backward and feels better to look forward").

Travis, as most folks know, is off in California... anyhow....I won't be at any of these shows and am doing a suckass job of plugging them but I wanted to do something. Here's Elliot fronting Freak Dream by bev davies, not to be reused without permission:
